Jake Berent’s story begins on the South Side of Chicago. The fifth out of six kids to a Polish Catholic family, he always had a penchant for storytelling, a gift he picked up from his father. He harnessed that gift in college reporting for Good Day DePaul and doing live basketball play-by-play for High School Cube, and went on to a career as a TV News multimedia-journalist. Reporting on everything from extreme weather to extreme corruption. After reporting for network affiliates in Presque Isle, Maine, Huntsville, Ala., and Kalamazoo, Mich., Jake employed his knowledge and skill to fight for working people. He ran communications for two Chicago-area labor councils, using his unique skillset to highlight the contributions working people, uplift organizing and and fight for good contracts.
